® patented Elika profile is everything an excellence in engineering 01737 767493 info@jbj.co.uk www.jbj.co.uk - registered in England No: 1185469 - jbj Techniques Limited is ISO certificated, committed to international coordination & unification of industrial standards. A range of products ATEX certificated to directive 94/9/E requirements www.jbj.co.uk/pressure-intensifiers.html The ScanWill compact hydraulic pressure intensifiers offer an easy, energy-saving, safe and cost-efficient solution to achieving a higher output pressure from an existing low-pressure power source. Low pressure supplied to the inlet port eg: 15 - 200 bar / 218 - 2,900 psi ~ is transformed to a higher pressure at the outlet port ~ from 20 - 4,000 bar / 290 - 58,000 psi. ScanWill’s pressure intensifiers are offered in cast iron and steel, with a chrome finish, as well as in stainless steel for the oil & gas sector. These pressure intensifiers are based on a piston principle, where a larger diameter piston pushes a smaller diameter piston, thus increasing the pressure to a factor equal to the ratio: Larger diameter area divided by smaller diameter area. The outlet pressure will always be proportionate to the supplied pressure. The diagram shows the basic principle of the pressure intensifiers, consisting of a piston arrangement, a Piston Control Valve PCV, Check Valves CV1 & CV2 and the Pilot Operated check Valve POV. Access Platforms Often deployed within the electrical maintenance and fire rescue areas, the access platform will regularly require the use of high pressure hydraulic tooling with operating pressure of up to 700 bar (10,000 psi). Conventionally this pressure is achieved from a high pressure power pack, which is carried in the cradle. This power pack adds to the weight load of the machine and takes up space in the cradle restricting the work area. The MP series of hydraulic pressure intensifiers present an alternative to the power pack. The MP intensifier can be positioned in the cradle, where it will increase the pressure supplied from the hydralic system on the truck to the operational pressure required. This saves cost, space and weight. Examples of Tools Hydraulic Cutter/Crimper Operational pressure 700 bar Lifting Cylinders Operational pressure 700 bar Torque Wrenches Operational pressure 700 bar Hydraulic Power Source P = 50 - 200 bar eg on a truck or a portable power pack Hydraulic Power Source P = 50 - 200 bar eg on a truck or a portable power pack Hydraulic Power Source P = 50 - 200 bar eg on a truck or a portable power pack Pressure Intensifiers Application Examples www.jbj.co.uk/pressure-intensifiers.html #DriveLineHarmony 12

Power Packs Inserting a MP-Intensifier in a low pressure power pack will provide a high pressure outlet, allowing high pressure hydraulic tools to operate. This is convienient in situations, where a low pressure hydraulic supply is present, e.g. in Aerial Lifts, and where space and weight are of a premium. Pressure Intensifiers Application Examples www.jbj.co.uk/pressure-intensifiers.html #DriveLineHarmony 13

Plastic Injection Moulding Machines In plastic injection moulding machines the MP Series of hydraulic pressure intensifiers are used to supply an increase to the available pressure enabling easy removal of the cores from the mould, increasing the pressure ensures that the cores are kept in place during the moulding process. This in turn increases the clamping force of the mould parts alleviating the need to remove excess material from the finished components. In order to keep the cycle time to a minimum the intensifiers are typically positioned in parallel with a pilot operated check valve, which allows the full fluid flow. When the higher pressure is required, the pilot operated check valve closes, and the intensifier will increase the pressure as needed. Once the higher pressure is reached, the full flow returns. This sequence is fully automatic, and does not require any additional controls. Suggested circuit: Pressure Intensifiers Application Examples www.jbj.co.uk/pressure-intensifiers.html #DriveLineHarmony 14

Workholding Applications Hydraulic workholding circuits on machine tools are a major application area for the MP series of hydraulic pressure intensifiers. Inserting the intensifier between the hydraulic system already on the machine tool and the hydraulic clamping components allows the higher pressure to be obtained and controlled from the supply side. High Flow Applications In high flow applications (plastic injection moulding machines, pressure die casting machines, demolition tools etc.) the MP intensifiers are inserted parallel with a pilot operated check valve which is designed to take the full flow to be used to fill the cylinder and subsequently the end pressure is delivered by the intensifier. During retraction the external POV allows the full flow to the tank. This setup allows high pressure to be obtained with a minimal reduction cycle time. Electric motor – Hydraulic Pump Adaptors (hazardous area) Designed to meet the exacting safety standards of the offshore and chemical process industries, jbj Techniques produce certificated to adaptor kits Directive 2014/34/EU II2GD-IM2-TX -50 C< Service Temp < +105 C. Harmonised standards BS EN 1127:1, BS EN 13463:1, BS EN13463:5, BS EN 50303, BS EN 1834-1,BS EN 1834-3. Generally manufactured in Cast or Nodular iron, bellhousings can be produced in steel, stainless steel or alternative exotic materials on customer request. Couplings supplied for these applications are the jbj Techniques 'JXL' pin and bush range which provide an anti-static and flameproof drive which meet zone 1 area requirements, conforming to all of the above standards. Also available are spider and gear couplings which are certified to zone 2 standards. (Contact jbj Techniques for details). An important development of equipment for use within hazardous areas is the wet mount series of bellhousings. Commissioned to research and develop a product that would control the high temperature generated by a piston pump shaft seal when working within cycling applications. A little considered issue is the frictional heat generated at the shaft seal when the application requires the pump to cycle between different pressures causing the seal temperature to increase. This process will often take the seal temperature out and above the levels required by the relevant ATEX standards requirement. This specially designed assembly allows a pumped cooling flow to be passed over the seal face and through an auxiliary cooler, this in turn reduces the seal face temperature which can be maintained at an acceptable level. With a vast array of components to select from, jbj are well placed to provide all required components to support the required cooling system. Diesel Engine – Hydraulic Pump Adaptors A complete range of bellhousing and couplings exist for the connection of a diesel engine flywheel to a specified driven component, be it an oil hydraulic pump, water pump, generator or similar device. With the bellhousing available in various materials to suit all application areas. With a standard range to connect Diesel engines with SAE dimensions from SAE '6' to SAE '0' jbj are well placed to satisfy the majority of customer requirements. Couplings to complete the assembly are available in either torsionally flexible or torsionally rigid design ad can be supplied to suit SAE flywheel dimensions from SAE 6.5” to SAE 18”. For hydraulic pumps to be mounted to engines that do not conform to SAE dimensions, we offer a full range of assembly parts, some of which (but not all) are shown here » for diesel engines All bellhousings within this range can be finished machined to accept any, piston, vane or gear pump interfaces requested by customer. As with the electric motor range of product jbj offer complete solutions for ATEX environments, using our well proven 'JXL' coupling range which has standard design to connect to the engine flywheel. Directive 2014/34/EU II2GD-IM2-TX -50°C ≤ Service Temp ≤ +105°C. Harmonised Standards: BS EN 1127:1 BS EN 13463:1 BS EN 13463:5 BS EN 50303.
