There are three reason for this; eddy currents, magnetic hysteresis and hydrodynamic resistance. The eddy current and the magnetic hysteresis is only a minimal part of this power absorption. The third consideration, the resistence, depends on the medium used within the pump, and from the moment when the internal rotor is immersed in the medium. Therefore it is important to establish the viscosity of the medium and the operational speed to determine the main power of the magnetic coupling.
