Two jbj Techniques
Ltd area sales engineers, Tony Fletcher and Paul Coidan, are
working on pumps for the sport of tractor pulling.
The unusual project involves a pump, pumping a mixture of water
and glycol, 24 lpm at 400psi, into the methanol injection system
of the tractor engine to keep the head cool.
It
is rumoured that one or more of these tractors are
fitted with World War II Alison aircraft engines.
One of the projects
is for the lubrication of the pinion gear in a tractors rear
axle.
When they shoot off @ 80mph the gears do not get much lubrication.
They normally rely on splash lubrication, but the speed they
are running at tends to throw the oil off by centrifugal force.
This is being remedied combining a Haldex 12 volt d.c. motor
to power a Marzocchi pump.
The pump will be drawing oil from the sump of the rear axle and
will then be pumped directly onto the differential pinion gear.
